12th International Students’ Gathering
This year’s 12th International Students’ Gathering, organized by UDEF under the auspices of Presidency of Republic of Turkey, which is being held in 91 cities of 51 countries with the slogan of “For a Just World, From East to West” completed its events in Konya under the coordination of Iki Dogu Iki Bati International Student Association; an UDEF affliate.
The event commenced with a rally from Karatay Madrasa till City Square and began with the recitation from the Noble Quran.
Friendly Ties Shall Strengthen.
Deputy-Mayor of Konya Metropolitan City, Vekili Fatih Ozgokcen, who was attending the program said, “It’s a matter of great value that an event with a slogan of “For a Just World, From East to West” is being organized in today’s world, where someone strong dominates the weak. It is a pleasure to host our fellow guest students in this historic city, which has been center of goodwill, sciences and knowledge in the Anatolian plateau for hundreds of years.
Vice-Rector of Seljuk University, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kagan mentioning, “Our hearts are one, our words are one” said, “Our past had been one and God willing so will be our future.”
President of Iki Dogu Iki Bati International Student Association, Murat Arslan said, “Since 2010, we have been striving to provide guiding and counselling services to international students in Konya. We live in a world where the strong oppress and dominate the weak. We are strive to grow youth who will help establish rights and justice. We strive with a belief that these youths, pursuing their education in our country and city, will establish a just world.
UDEF Vice-President, Ali Yelgun mentioned of 150 thousand students from 203 countries pursuing their education in Turkey and developing a sound character as well.
Following the speeches, the delegates cut the ribbon to kick off the event and visited the country stands, set up by international students. The vibrant event of 12th International Students’ Gathering of Konya marked an astounding presence of 900 volunteer students from 60 different countries. The two days program was visited by around 150 thousand local public.
