12th International Students’ Gathering held in Adana
This year’s 12th International Students’ Gathering, organized by UDEF under the auspices of Presidency of Republic of Turkiye, which is being held in 91 cities of 51 countries, completed Adana phase.
Students from various countries of different continents set up their stands exhibiting their traditional belongings, food, history and culture.
The program, which began with the recitation from the Noble Quran, followed inaugural speech from Ibrahim Tokgoz, President of Cukurova International Student Association. Tokgoz said, “We have been working for international students as an association for years. Students from all over the world are pursuing their education in our cities, learning Turkish, coping with each other and we strive to provide them with possible material and emotional support throughout their study tenure such that they take and spread with them the norms and values they earn here. I would like to thank all those present here in order to make the 12th International Students’ Gathering possible.”
Vice-President of UDEF, Selman Duran said, “The event in which around 150 thousand students from 7 continents meet, this year we are organizing it widening to 91 cities of 51 different countries. Students coming to Turkey, we do not address them as foreigners but our guests. The events, in which our guest students participate, are the means of establishing the bridges of brotherhood and unity to every parts of world. With our volunteer cultural ambassadors, we will spread Turkey to the world with the slogan of “For a Just World, From East to West”.
Mayor of Adana Mahmut Demirtas said that students from all over the world who bear diverse cultural backgrounds, by coming together here today send the message of brotherhood, unity and togetherness from Adana to the world. Repeating the slogan of this year’s 12th International Students’ Gathering, Demirtas said, “No matter where we look, whichever TV channel we switch to, all we find is blood, hatred and tears. Every day many of innocents are losing lives. Hence, amidst of all this, to organize such an event with the slogan of “For a Just World, From East to West”, I believe, is of an extraordinary virtue.”
The event, which seemed no less than a festival itself with traditional dance performances, folk songs, poetry and traditional food, was attended by Mayor of Adana Mahmut Demirtas, UDEF Vice-Chairman Selman Duran, Turkey Red Crescent Executive Board Member and Adana Head Ramazan Sagili, Adana IHH Chairman Mahmut Eraslan, representatives from different NGOs and international students.
