12th International Students’ Gathering held in Gaziantep

UDEF’s 12th International Students’ Gathering, under the auspices of the Presidency of Republic of Turkey, which is projected to be held in 91 cities of 51 different countries, was held in Gaziantep. The event was organized by Yeni Dogu International Student Association; an UDEF affiliate.


Students from 107 different countries, continuing their studies in GAUN, exhibited their cultures through different performances and traditional belongings at International Students’ Gathering.


With the slogan of “For a Just World, From East to West”, international students in Turkey had an opportunity to introduce their culture to others, while learning that of others.


The event that was held in the city of Gaziantep by the joint effort of UDEF and Yeni Dogu International Students’ Association, with the slogan of “For a Just World, From East to West” marked esteemed presence of Rector of Gaun Prof. Dr. Ali Gur, Deputy Ambassador of Holland H.E. Paula Sastrowijoto, UDEF Accommodation Coordinator Ahmet Yasir Temelli, Executive Head of Gaziantep Chamber of Industries Adnan Unverdi, Gaziantep Deputy Governor Senol Kaya, Rector Advisor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Necip Yilmaz, RTUK Representative Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hamit Ersoy, Director of National Education Board-Gaziantep Cengiz Mete, General Secretary Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayhan Dogan, GAUN Deputy General Secretary Nuh Okumus, NGO representatives and international students.


In the event, Ahmet Yasir said, “The number of international students have been noticed to be on surge since 2004. International students who travel to Turkey from far off their homes, we try our level best not leaving them alone being by their side in all situations. As UDEF, we strive to bridge hearts with the motive of Ansar-Muhajir Brotherhood. We support international students with counselling, guidance, stipend and accommodation, meanwhile, reminding them of their vital role in the establishment of a world full of peace”


H.E. Sastrowijoto international students present in the program saying, “I appreciate the way get integrated here, Turkish language skills that you learn and the way you get adapted to the living style here. Further, I would thank UDEF for their ceaseless efforts.”


Adnan Unverdi addressed students saying, “I thank you for coming to our country, to our city. During the tenure of your studies here, as Chamber of Industries, I shall try my best to be of some help. Gaziantep is a production hub and exports goods and services to 180 countries, maybe this could be a chance that we can come to a point of extending business together.”


Jameel Ahmed Sufyan, GAUN architecture student, said, “As said by President Erdogan, each of us are ambassadors of our cultures and after graduation when we spread to different parts of the world, we shall represent Turkey. Turkey shall always be our home. With students from different nationalities at Gaziantep University, we share same emotion and spirit and shall continue to be so.”
