12th International Students’ Gathering in Izmir

Izmir hosts UDEF’s 12th International Students’ Gathering, which this year is to be in 91 cities of 51 different countries. The event was held at Izmir Katip Celebi University.

 

International students from different continents opened their own stands to introduce their countries and cultures to the visitors. The stands exhibited traditional food, dance music, history and other cultural and traditional belongings.

 

The program began with the recitation from the Noble Quran. President of Izmir International Student Association, Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Cevik made the inaugural speech. Mr. Cevik said, “I would like to thank the authorities of Izmir Katip Celebi University for hosting 12th International Students’ Gathering. As an association, we having been holding activities related to international students for 7 years. Students from all over the world are pursuing their education in our city, learning the Turkish language. We strive to provide them moral and material support and help them carry our norms and values that they earn here to the different parts of the world. I thank everyone for showing their interest and participating in this event.”

 

Later UDEF President, Dr. Mehmet Ali Bolat said, “The event of International Students’ Gathering where 150 thousand students from all the continents meet up has widen this year to 91 cities of 51 different countries. The gatherings in which internationals students pursuing their education in Turkey participate and introduce us with their cultural values are means of establishing the goodwill bridges. With our volunteer cultural ambassadors, this year we plan to bring the world to Turkey with the slogan of “For a Just World, From East to West.” Dr. Bolat invited the participants to the final event of these gatherings which is supposed be held on 4 May.

 

Rector of Izmir Katip Celebi University, Prof. Dr. Saffet Kose while extending his gladness for hosting the international students said, “You are our ambassadors to the world. On returning to your home countries, you will represent and introduce us. We feel provide of you all and we wish you all the best.”

 

Director of Regional Youth and Sports Department, Muammer Uslu said, “Everyone is equal, despite of the negatives in the world I believe these youths will succeed in doing many incredible things and be our future.”

 

The traditional dance performances, play, poetry and songs made the event memorable and outstanding.
