Colors of the World Met in Albania
This year, the 12th International Students’ Gathering organized by UDEF with the motto of “For a Just World, From East to West” in 51 countries and 91 different cities has concluded its Albanian phase with indelible impressions.
The program which was held in the hall of University of New York Tirana, Albania was attended by Hakan Cengiz, Counsellor of Embassy of Republic of Turkey Albania, Necip Ozay Ozutok, TIKA Tirana Co-ordinator, Omer Osman Demirbas, Director of Yunus Emre Institute Tirana Turkish Culture Center, Fatih Cankurt, Coordinator of Turkish Maarif Foundation Albania, Ertan Alpay, Manger of Turkish Airlines Tirana, UDEF representative for the program Mehmet Yilmaz, Burhan Mollamusa, Executive Board Member of TUMED, representatives from various NGOs and international students.
Following the Quranic Recitation, UDEF representative for the program Mehmet Yilmaz presented his inaugural speech.
In his speech, Yilmaz mentioned, “The number of international students have been noticed to be on surge since 2004. International students who travel to Turkey from far off their homes, we try our level best not leaving them alone being by their side in all situations. As UDEF, we strive to bridge hearts with the motive of Ansar-Muhajir Brotherhood. We support international students with counselling, guidance, stipend and accommodation, meanwhile, reminding them of their vital role in the establishment of a world full of peace.”
Briefing about the education in Turkey, Mehmet Yilmaz added, “Turkish possesses very favorable conditions for university education. We, as UDEF, put our efforts in order to provide our utmost help to the international students regardless of their origin. With 64 different student organizations all over Turkey, we are always by their side.”
After Yilmaz, the president of Albanian Turkey Alumni’s Association, Egert Haxhiu, in speech said, “So far some 3000 students graduated from Turkey. Moreover, around 1100 students are pursuing their studies in various universities in Turkey currently. This year approximately 650 students applied for Turkish Scholarships. We would like to extend our gratitude towards our close ally, The Republic of Turkey for providing such opportunities. I would like to express my gratitude to UDEF as well for their valued efforts in the matters of introducing Albania to the world as well as from the perspective of international students.”
Musical and local dance and performances added a more vibrant frame to the program. At the end of the program, participants were served with the local delicious Albanian dishes.
